Kek Coklat Makanan Setan (Apakah?) and Sepahan Eton

Ni le ghope kek yang second time saya coba. Bantat ke hapa? Masak tapi nipis gila. The first time saya buat lagi disaster because the cake cracked and terbelah dua terus. Mmg horror!

Nasib baik semangat saya agak kental hari sabtu tu. So saya buat second batter and kali ni guna Nigella's recipe. But for frosting saya guna recipe daripada Kak Yat.


DEVIL'S FOOD CHOCOLATE CAKE ( Original Source)

Ingredients (for the cake):
50g best-quality cocoa powder, sifted
100g dark muscovado sugar
250ml boiling water
125g soft unsalted butter, plus some for greasing
150g caster sugar
225g plain flour
1⁄2 teaspoon baking powder
1⁄2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 eggs

Method 
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/gas mark 4.
2. Line the bottoms of both sandwich tins with baking parchment and butter the sides.
3. Put the cocoa and 100g dark muscovado sugar into a bowl with a bit of space to spare, and pour in the 4. boiling water. Whisk to mix, then set aside.
5. Cream the butter and caster sugar together, beating well until pale and fluffy; I find this easiest with a freestanding mixer, but by hand wouldn’t kill you.
6. While this is going on – or as soon as you stop if you’re mixing by hand – stir the flour, baking powder and bicarb together in another bowl, and set aside for a moment.
8. Dribble the vanilla extract into the creamed butter and sugar – mixing all the while – then drop in 1 egg, quickly followed by a scoopful of flour mixture, then the second egg.
9. Keep mixing and incorporate the rest of the dried ingredients for the cake, then finally mix and fold in the cocoa mixture, scraping its bowl well with a spatula.
10. Divide this fabulously chocolatey batter between the 2 prepared tins and put in the oven for about 30 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean.
11. Take the tins out and leave them on a wire rack for 5–10 minutes, before turning the cakes out to cool.

Cream Cheese Frosting (Source)
125g Philadelphia cheese-(next time just use 1/2 this amount for the cream cheese)
60g butter
1/4  cup icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract ( i used vanilla essence)
juice of a squeezed slice of lemon
Beat the cheese and butter, just until creamy, add the icing sugar, vanilla and lemon juice.

Chocolate Ganache
100ml double cream with at least 30% fat content
125g dark chocolate, chopped finely
a pinch of salt
In a double boiler, warm the cream until just at boiling point, add the chocolate & salt and stir. 
When all the chocolate has melted, remove for heat and continue stirring until all well mixed.
Let the cake cool completely, spread the cream cheese frosting and pour the ganache on top.

Yang tak jadik tu, satu layer tu dah selamat dimakan oleh T-Bag and Yaya. Satu layer tu saya guna utk assemble the cake, so the cake ada three layers la. 

Saya bawak ni pi rumah jiran yang tak berapa dekat. Kami menyambut kedatangan orang Malaysia dan sambut sekali birthday Ayiq. Majlis adalah secara pot luck, tuan rumah masak ayam masak merah. Ada yang bawak ayam goreng, sambal belacan dan dalca. And for the dessert, Kak Wan bawak seri muka yg sgt sedaps! Saya tambah satu lagi dessert yg sangat senang nak di buat: Eton Mess.

Warning!
Dessert yg amat sedap and sgt sinful, kihkihkih.

Ingredients: 
Double cream or whipping cream.
Raspberries/Strawberries
Meringue nests

Method:
Pukul cream sampai pekat but not stiff.
Lenyek the strawberries and masukkan dalam creamy batter.
Pecahkan-pecahkan meringue and masukkan dalam creamy batter.
Make sure ada extra meringue so that bila nak makan, sendukkan creamy batter dah siap tu dalam mangkuk dan taburkan lagi meringue di atas nya.

Eton mess ni adalah dessert yg paling senang nak dibuat for those yg buat makan-makan tapi tak sempat buat dessert. Percayalah, ia sgt addictive and mmg pelik kalau korang tak ambik second helping, hehehe.

Balik ke rumah dgn perut yg diextend, kahkahkah! Pastu malam tu jugak ada sushi nite with jiran terhampir. Saya buat hand roll sushi with three options : chicken strips, salmon sashimi or smoked salmon. Macam biasa, ada sashimi, fish tempura, prawn tempura, and veggies tempura. For sushi pulak ada crab stick sushi and salmon sushi. Memang best gila melantak, heheh.

Tapi yg tak bestnya, Yaya adalah tak sehat. Muntah dua kali dkt rumah jiran. Not sure whether because of winter bug or perut dia masuk angin. Dia macam tak nak makan and asik baring aje. Tapi pagi ni dia bangun nampak ok and dah makan semangkuk bubur ayam :).

DLL - Eton mess tu 1st time makan beli kat M&S. sedapnyaaaaa.. tapi rege dia boleh tahan. rupa2nya itu je bahan dia? mudah benar (esp bil amerengue pun boleh beli siap) ;p wajib buat sendiri.
