Singgang for Iftar 28th

I like Ramadhan because I can focus on cooking only for iftar, no breakfast and no lunch. Cooking ke baking ke mesti focus oi! So, today T-Bag requested to have his study session in the morning, so my turn starts at 1pm till 6pm. I started cooking at 6.30pm. So, masak kena cepat-cepat. But then again, I don't have any idea on what to cook. Macam biasa, geledah Kak Nor's collection of recipe in the morning. Found ikan singgang recipe. FYI, I don't really like singgang because macam makan makanan org sakit. Hehehe. 

When I was 12 years old, my mom was admitted to the hospital for almost three months because she had a problem with her intestine (I guess sebab banyak sgt minum ubat periuk and slimming tea, nak jaga badan la katakan), my mom called her mom and asked for something delicious from home. At that time, both my neneks (mom's side) and atok Sembok (nenek dad's side), were staying with us. Ye la sapa lagi nak tlg jaga we all kan. Upon hearing the request from her daughter-in-law, my Atok Sembok insisted to cook. Atok Sembok cooked singgang. Sampai hospital, my mom macam takde mood. Then, when my Atok Sembok was not with my mom, my mom said to her mom, "semalam baru je makan singgang kat spital, ni singgang dr rumah pulakk". Hehehehe. Aruah Atok Sembok worked as a cook at Hospital Muo, miss her pecal la weh!

This singgang is a pedas version, so mcm nak cuba la kan. I took the recipe from Kak Nor and I believed Kak Nor took it from the famous CMG. Thanks to both of you :)


IKAN SINGGANG SERANI
2 ekor ikan kembung segar, bersihkan dan potong dua
2 ulas bawang putih*
4 biji bawang merah kecil*
1/2 cm halia*
1/2 cm lengkuas*
1 inci kunyit hidup*
7 - 10 biji cili padi, kalau tak nak pedas boleh dikurangkan*(*ditumbuk jgn terlalu lumat)
1 kuntum bunga kantan, dibelah dua (don't have this, skip)
2 batang serai, dititik
1 camca besar asam jawa, dibancuh dgn 1 cawan air dan tapis jusnya
1 kiub ikan bilis "Maggi"
Sedikit garam dan gula (kalau suka)
1 camca besar minyak utk menumis

1. Panaskan minyak di dalam periuk. Tumis bahan2 ditumbuk hingga naik bau. 
2. Masukkan air (anggaran 500ml, terpulang pada masing2). Biarkan mendidih.
3. Masukkan serai, kiub ikan bilis dan garam serta gula (kalau suka). Biarkan mendidih.
4. Masukkan ikan tadi dan bunga kantan. 
5. Bila menggelegak, tuang jus asam jawa. Masak 5 minit hingga ikan masak. 
6. Rasa garamnya. Angkat dan hidangkan dgn nasi panas.


We have the singgang with fried chicken and mixed vegetables. Sirup kuahnya, oh yummy!

Singgang pencetus selera tapi anak2 I kenot appreciate it.

Fyi,
I know Doc Mady dulu barulah I kenal wife dia. Know them since 5 yrs ago. Diorang ada blog juga, hehe.

Somuffins: I rasa singgang ni elok2 makan masa takdak idea aje la.. heheheh..

I know they have a blog, read once, pastu dah ilang link.. hehehe

afendi: singgang aku buat tu pedas, anak aku makan ayam goreng dgn sayur la kan.. tapi aku jalan je mana2.. sedapppp.. ko dah sampai kg ke?
